What is it? The Advent 4211c is a mini laptop / netbook / webbook with 10.1-inch screen.

What we think? This is a less expensive version of the MSI Wind and that's a good thing. It's fast, it's portable and something we recommend highly

This netbook comes with a good 10.1-inch screen with 1,024 x 600 resolution, an Intel Atom N270 processor running at 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM (plenty for the included Windows XP)

The keyboard is a lot better than on any of the Eees - even the Eee PC 1000

There's a 1.3Mp webcam above the screen and a pair of tiny speakers under each corner of the base, so video chats are possible without additional peripherals, helped by the 802.11b/g wireless networking. There's also Bluetooth connectivity and an ethernet port, along with VGA monitor output and a pair of jack sockets for audio in and out. To allow easy access to SD cards and the like, there's a multi-format card reader included too.

The outer shell sports a coat that is neither matte nor quite glossy, but a mixture of the two, and looking closely reveals tiny silver sparkles.

If you want the cheapest 10.1-inch netbook out there, then the Advent 4211c is not difficult to recommend.

If you like your SCC (Small, Cheap Computers) to be not too small, the Advent 4211c, with its 10.1-inch display, will appeal. So will its price, which puts it well ahead of the similarly sized competition.

The Advent 4211c also ticks all the correct connectivity boxes: VGA, 10/100Mb/s Ethernet, audio ports, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and a trio of USB 2.0 ports. Unlike many of its rivals it has Bluetooth on board, if you need it. The webcam is a 1.3-megapixel job.

I absolutely love this netbook! It does all I want and is perfect for travelling, especially as I am a student! I would easily give this a 9/10

After reading reviews on the Advent 4211, I bought. I am more than delighted with the machine. Having used it all day in many locations including being carried in motorcycle panniers for a week there are no problems. Screen very good, keyboard good for typing, speed sufficient. PC world price really sets this as a hot seller for people on the move.

I have had the Advent 4211 for a couple of weeks now and love it. I have come from using Sony laptops (VGN X505VP 10" and PCG C1-MHP 8.9") and I can honestly say that the keyboard layout on the Advent is vastly superior in some ways. The large right shift key and return key makes fast and large quantity typing a delight. I'm typing my thesis on it so have been using it for many hours each day, not just typing but also downloading journal articles and searching other internet sites quickly for research. I needed Word for my work so I removed Microsoft Works and download Office instead but this is just a personal choice. The fast internet connection is brilliant and has a most efficient wi-fi. It was so easy to set up, taking only minutes to do so. When you first connect the wi-fi remember to unlock it first. The whole feeling of using the Advent 4211 is that it is a perky workhorse and I really look forward to using it each day which has to be a good sign. I haven't used it for anything other than internet/e-mail and heavy duty word-processing so can't comment on any other applications to be honest. Would thoroughly recommend for the uses I have mentioned.
